The international seminar for the youth of the CIS member states on the preservation of historical memory “Memory and lessons of the Second World War” is held jointly by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the National Council of Youth and Children's Associations of Russia and the federal state budgetary educational institution of higher education “MIREA - Russian Technological University”, performing the functions of the Basic Organization of the CIS Member States for working with youth.


The international seminar for the youth of the CIS member states on the preservation of historical memory “Memory and lessons of the Second World War” is part of the Action Plan for 2023–2024 for the implementation of the Strategy for International Youth Cooperation of the CIS Member States for 2021–2030.


Tasks:

  • increase participants' awareness of World War II and the Great Patriotic War;

  • exchange experience in conducting events to preserve the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War;

  • discuss the challenges associated with preserving the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War (including historical revisionism, falsification and manipulation of facts about historical events, war crimes of the Nazis and their collaborators), as well as ways to respond to them;

  • create conditions for regular dialogue between youth leaders of the CIS member states when discussing issues related to preserving the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War;

  • support participants in developing projects to preserve the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War.

  • In 2024, special attention within the program will be paid to the study of the Nuremberg, Tokyo and Khabarovsk trials, their significance for historical memory and role in educational work.

  • The seminar will be attended by 40 participants from the CIS member states, whose activities are directly related to the topic of the seminar.


The international seminar will be held from June 19 to 23, 2024 (arrival day - June 18, departure day - June 24) in Moscow.


A candidate to participate in the seminar must meet the following criteria:

  • be between 18 and 35 years of age;

  • have citizenship and reside in the territory of one of the CIS member states;

  • be a representative of a youth public organization / a representative of an informal youth association / a representative of a student organization / a representative of a search movement / a representative of a structure that implements youth policy / a young historian / an employee of a museum or memorial site who is involved in preserving the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War war or a young person who has a ready-made project or idea for a project aimed at preserving the historical memory of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War;

  • be motivated to actively participate in the seminar and actively learn;

  • be ready to work to disseminate and increase the knowledge acquired during the seminar;

  • be open and aimed at developing cooperation and sharing experiences between youth leaders and youth organizations in the CIS;

  • be motivated and able to organize activities and projects after the workshop in collaboration with other workshop participants;

  • be present throughout the workshop and participate in all elements of the program;

  • be able to work in Russian (speak fluently, conduct discussions, participate in discussions).
