The MGIMO-University in partnership with the Gorchakov Fund and Rossotrudnichestvo open a call for applications for the programme of scientific and research fellowships for foreign experts InteRussia.
InteRussia is an opportunity for foreign experts in history and theory of international relations, political science and foreign regional studies to learn about the Russian scientific and expert agenda, visit government authorities, and participate in expert sessions hosted by universities, think tanks and public organisations. The unique feature of the programme is that the selected participants get the opportunity to work under the academic guidance of leading MGIMO scholars.
InteRussia’s mission is to expand and deepen scientific, social and cultural ties between Russia and foreign countries and to create a basis for fruitful academic dialogue between rising scholars from around the globe.
The fellowship will be held in English and will take place at the MGIMO-University (Moscow, Russia) from October 16 to November 26.
The framework theme of the autumn fellowship is “The Politics of Great and Middle Powers in Eurasia”.
Potential research topics of the fellowship (applicants can propose their own topics):
China in Central Asia
The role of the EU in the US-China rivalry and prospects of European consolidation on the anti-Chinese basis
The US and EU policy towards Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan
Turkish policy in the post-Soviet space
“The green agenda” in the Western states’ policy towards the post-Soviet space
Sanctions and trade wars as modern tools of global competitive confrontation
Deadline for applications: August 6, 11:59 pm Moscow time. The results of the competition will be announced on September 12 and communicated to all candidates by email.
The fellowship will result in an original research project of 15-25,000 characters (incl. spaces), prepared by the applicant on the basis of the submitted research proposal (in English).
Who can apply?
Applicants, who meet the following requirements at the time of the application deadline, will be able to participate in the competition:
foreign citizenship;
age 25-35;
residence outside Russia;
professional knowledge of English (at least C1 level);
submission of a research proposal on the selected topic in accordance with the requirements of the application;
absence of any employment/previous enrollment in academic programs/other relations with the MGIMO-University;
an academic/Ph.D. degree or postgraduate studies in progress.
The selection of the applicants for the fellowship will be based on the results of the competition. The competition criteria include:
research proposal;
academic publications;
letters of recommendation;
other research and expert activities of the applicant (participation in conferences, grants awarded, academic internships, expert publications, comments in the media, etc.);
online interview.

Terms of participation:
The organisers will cover:
travel expenses to/from Moscow;
double accommodation in the MGIMO student residence;
visa assistance;
a scholarship for the duration of the fellowship in the amount of 45,000 rubles.
The participants are responsible for covering the following costs:
food expenses during the fellowship;
PCR test (if needed);
medical insurance.
