Feeling the charm of mathematics, 2023 USTC FuSEP Summer Camp brings together some of the best minds in interdisciplinary research at USTC to take you on an incredible journey through mathematics without borders. It will provide an exceptional opportunity to combine high-quality learning, hands-on research experience, with an unforgettable summer experience. Selected students can immerse themselves in a multicultural environment to communicate, work and learn from each other.

Content description:

The 'Future Mathematicians International Summer Camp' (FMISC) is organized by the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), which holds a leading position in various research fields worldwide. The camp will provide an exceptional opportunity to combine high-quality learning, hands-on research experience, with an unforgettable summer experience. Selected international and Chinese students can immerse themselves in a multicultural environment, communicate, work and learn from each other. It is the first year that FMISC will be organized in the summer of 2023, and in an offline way.


In the field of mathematics, USTC is among the top in the country and has produced a large number of well-known mathematicians. In recent years, the School of Mathematics USTC has made original and internationally influential breakthroughs in a series of important mathematical problems, and its research results have been published in top international academic journals such as Ann. Math., Invent. Math. Therefore, the program will include cutting-edge academic reports in two major areas of basic and applied mathematics. Excellent students from different countries will be deeply inspired by the clash of ideas here. The summer camp program will span about 2 weeks, starting from the middle of July 2023.


Lectures

Science Talks cover the frontiers of mathematics research, including but not limited to the following directions: Differential Geometry,Dynamical System,Differential Equation, Computational Geometry,Graph Theory Combination,Algebra,Probability Statistics,etc.


Culture events

Seminars on Chinese history, culture and art. For example, join us in exploring Chinese tea culture, Chinese calligraphy, etc.

Requirement

The camp is targeted for undergrads above the freshman level from prominent international and domestic universities, and will admit about 30 students.


Interested applicants are required to comply with the following eligibility:

- Registered full-time at home university;

- Complete at least one-year undergraduate study at home university in related discipline

- Academic Excellence with CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of ‘B’ or above - English Proficiency of TOEFL iBT 85, IELTS (Ac) 6.0 or above, for non-native English speakers only


Materials: CV, certificate of enrollment, transcripts and statement of purpose are required.

Content description Theme: Engineering Changes the World. The summer school consists of a two-week lecture series given by outstanding professors from USTC. Students can also gain insights into Chinese culture through a series of cultural courses and seminars on communicative spoken Chinese and Chinese culture. ONLY admitted students who finished any seven academic lectures in this Session and at least one culture course will be given one credit with transcript.

Lectures

Science Talks on mechanical behavior and design of materials, high-speed flow and advanced propulsion, turbulence and interface, drops and bubbles, nanophotonics and plasmonics, biomedical imaging, ultra-precision fabrication and processing technology, intelligent machines and robots, solar thermal conversion, fire dynamics, key technologies of fire prevention, theory and methodology of fire safety engineering, and theories on public safety emergency, etc.

- Complete at least one-year undergraduate study at home university in related discipline;

The Summer Camp tentatively consists of acadamic lectures, culture events, lab tours, group works and field studies.

Lectures

Lectures on machine learning, signal processing, pattern recognition and data mining could be expected.
