IYESF Joins the 4th Edition of BRICS Policy Center's “BRICS+ in Dialogue: India"

On 9th April, the BRICS Policy Center held a new edition of their ongoing series “BRICS+ in Dialogue”. The webinar featured Professor Ravni Thakur from the Department of East Asian Studies, University of Delhi, who shared her perspectives on India’s membership in BRICS+ and opportunities for international collaboration.

Asfia Kulsoom, Project Associate for International and Regional Projects at the International Youth Edu-Skills Foundation, joined the dialogue online on Zoom.

Professor Ravni Thakur expressed that with the addition of Ethiopia, Egypt, Iran and the UAE to the original five during the 2023 summit in South Africa, BRICS has already entered a new stage of its emergence.

Highlighting the implications of BRICS expansion, she made a point that the very disparate and diverse cultural and economic trajectories of all these nation states implies that a broad and largely cooperative umbrella approach and an agenda that stays away from geopolitical issues may be the best way forward.

She stated that being a founding member of the BRICS original countries, India has always supported the key principles upon which this informal gathering was first created and that it helps India maintain its goal of strategic autonomy and empowers the Global South

BRICS+ in Dialogue” is an initiative of the BRICS Policy Center that promotes debates with researchers from the new BRICS+ members.
