Public Diplomacy Support Fund named after A.M. Gorchakova, in partnership with the Chechen State University (CSU), has opened applications for participation in the scientific and educational program "Caucasian Dialogue - 2021", which will be held in Grozny, Russia.
The theme of the event is "Historical memory and symbolic politics in the Caucasus: a view from the inside and from the outside"
Dates: November 21-25, 2021
The scientific director of the school is Akhmet Yarlykapov, an Islamic scholar, senior researcher at MGIMO of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In modern international relations, there has recently been an increase in the role of the so-called symbolic politics, which is understood as public activity associated with the production of various ways of interpreting social reality and the struggle for their dominance. The field of such a struggle is the historical memory of the societies of individual countries or the international community as a whole. In this space, states or other players associated with them are trying to consolidate their beneficial interpretations of key historical events, images of heroes and antiheroes. The political use of the past, as a rule, crystallizes into the politics of memory, a particular case of which is historical politics, where the main actor is the state with its powerful financial, organizational and informational resources.
The Dialogue program includes lectures, round tables, panel discussions and an interactive part. The event experts will be leading scientists in the field of international relations, famous political scientists, politicians, historians, representatives of public organizations. The program includes an excursion program to the sights of the region.
Who can become a member?
Representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Russian regions, as well as Caucasian specialists from other states are invited to the forum:
researchers in the field of international relations, political scientists, economists, lawyers, historians;
undergraduates, postgraduates and professors of specialized universities; international journalists;
representatives of public organizations dealing with issues of international cooperation, public diplomacy;
young diplomats and government officials.
The age of the participants is from 21 to 35 years old.
The group of participants in the event is formed on the basis of a competition.
How do I get Involved?
1) Fill out the form using the Gorchakov Foundation form
2) Attach to the application an essay / analytical work of up to 5 thousand characters on one of the following topics:
- "Historical memory and symbolic politics in the Caucasus: a view from the inside and from the outside";
- "Economy of the Caucasus in the post-like era: problems and prospects";
- "Geopolitical changes in the Caucasus and their impact on security in the region"
3) Attach a letter of motivation (why do you want to participate in the "Caucasian Dialogue - 2021"?).
The organizers will provide the authors of the three best works with the opportunity to pay for travel to the venue of the event and back.
The terms of participation:
- accommodation, meals and travel around Grozny are paid by the organizers of the event. The Foundation also assists foreign citizens in obtaining a Russian visa;
- The way to Grozny and back, visa costs, medical insurance valid on the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as the PCR test done not earlier than November 20, participants pay independently.
The last day for accepting applications is October 19, 2021.
