The baton of the presentation of the Project “Great BRICS Teachers” continued on December 19 at the Department of Foreign Languages of Savitribai Phule Pune University with the participation of the Head of the Russian House in Mumbai Elena Remizova, Dean of the Faculty Ms. Anagha Bhat, members of the Russian-Indian delegation headed by the President of the RPO "BRICS. World of Traditions", manager of the Program "BRICS People Choosing Life" Lyudmila Sekacheva.
"With great joy and excitement, we stepped on the Indian land to implement the Program together with the young generation of talented, unique and highly spiritual Indian people. It is a great honor for us to present our projects today at one of the renowned Universities in India", Lyudmila Sekacheva greeted the participants with these words.
In conformity with the Program’s tradition, the meeting started with the video address by the Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia sous-sherpa of Russia to BRICS Pavel Knyazev.
Elena Remizova stressed the importance of implementing the Project in partnership with the Department of Foreign Languages of the University that the Russian House in Mumbai supporting the Project has cooperated for a long time.
Ms. Anagha emphasized in her speech: "We want our department to become a resource for those who want to work with the Russian community. I am not only a teacher of Russian, but also a translator. I translate Russian fiction into the local Marathi language. I see that the cultural exchange continues and we are open to suggestions".
With great attention and interest, the participants of the meeting got acquainted with the presentations of the Program and the Project "Great BRICS Teachers", which were jointly conducted by the members of the delegation Anastasia Shkitina, Dmitry Kurbatov, Dmitry Chiglintsev, and Rahul Sharma.
As part of the meeting, the guests got acquainted with the interactive audience of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, where portraits of famous writers from different countries and times are presented, among which there are portraits of great Russian writers: Leo Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin.
Ms. Anagha Bhat showed to the delegation members a collection of articles by scientists and university teachers with a donation inscription and the unique material: her own translation of two letters from Leo Tolstoy to Mahatma Gandhi into Marathi, the official language of the state of Maharashtra.
Gandhi highly appreciated the humanistic outlook and creativity of the Russian writer. "In the person of Tolstoy, Russia gave me a Teacher who turned my mind around and helped to shape my philosophy of non-violence… No one, neither before Tolstoy nor after him, spoke about non-violence so much, in a heartfelt and convincing way", - that is how Mahatma Gandhi described Leo Tolstoy in his speech on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Russian peer.
Moreover, the guests were given as gifts the printing materials with the image of Leo Tolstoy.
Finalizing the Program, the collection was added to the exposition of the school exhibition "Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi: a Unique Heritage", operating at Moscow School No. 1409 that became a partner of the Delhi Public School, Dwarka, in a project to create the Russian-Indian cultural and educational center named after Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi on the premises of the Indian school, implemented within the framework of the Program "BRICS People Choosing Life".
In turn, members of the delegation handed over gift booklets on the theme of the Program and colorful flags with the words "Friendship", "Trust", "Love" for students of the Department of Foreign Languages.
At the end of the event on December 19, 2022, Lyudmila Sekacheva made a proposal to establish cooperation between the University of Pune and MGIMO University under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on this and other topics of concern to students, arousing sincere interest of the Dean Ms. Anagha Bhat, who confirmed her and students’ of the department participation in the final presentation of the humanitarian and business tracks of the program "BRICS People Choosing Life" in India, which will be held at MGIMO University, approximately in April 2023, as part of the BRICS Laboratory.
The Russian Embassy in India, the Consulate General of Russia in Mumbai, the Trade Representation of Russia in India, the Russian Export Center in India, Russian Houses in New Delhi and Mumbai, Delhi Public School, Dwarka, Mumbai University, Bhavan College in Mumbai, Indian participants of the Program, namely Snevardhan Research Institute, Prof. Ramkrishna More College and Prof. Jog College of Science and Commerce will be invited to join this event online.
