The Royal Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene is a membership charity that has been committed to improving tropical medicine and global health since 1907. Its goal is to save lives and improve health around the world.

The organization's activities include funding and disseminating interdisciplinary research through peer-reviewed journals and a calendar of meetings and events. They provide grants for UK and international research and award medals for excellence in practice and to recognize emerging talent.

The Royal Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene provides annual grants to emerging researchers from anywhere in the world to conduct their own research in aspects of tropical medicine or global health.

Purpose of Early Career Grants

To enable emerging researchers and global health professionals in tropical medicine or global health to conduct clinical or scientific research and/or fieldwork, either as separate projects or separate elements within a larger project. They are for those who have not previously received a research grant of £5,000 or more in their own name.

The RSTMH expects most applicants to be early in their careers, although it recognizes that some more experienced individuals may be new to research and still be eligible to apply for a grant. Anyone can apply for an RSTMH Early Career Grant. However, if you receive it, you will be granted a membership or deduct the cost from the grant.

Thematic coverage

Applications can be made in any area of tropical medicine or global health.

Early Career Grant Cost and Timing

The maximum RSTMH Early Career Grant is £5,000, including any applicable purchase tax. One or more laureates may be funded or partially funded by the Denis Burkitt Fellowship Fund. In this case, you have the chance to participate in selected award events.

The project is due to start between September and December 2023 after the scheduled payment dates, which are currently September 2023, but please note that this may change depending on the number of applications. The project must be completed within a year of its inception.
