The School of Climate Change (SoCC) is an eight-week course taught by leading Oxford academics and organised by the Oxford Climate Society (OCS). It is designed to equip participants with a comprehensive education in the basics of climate change - from the physics of the greenhouse effect to climate justice. Pitched as a 'Climate 101' course, the SoCC is open to everyone, wherever you are in the world.

The weekly course consists of face-to-face lectures, a question and answer session with lecturers and a panel discussion "Techno-optimism against radical change" in the fourth week. They will be held every Thursday evening at 18:00-20:00 British time from January 18 to March 7 (weeks 1-8) in Oxford at the Fitzhugh Auditorium, Cohen Quad OX1 2HG. The auditorium is located on the ground floor and is accessible to the public. Classes will be recorded and also accompanied by a live broadcast, which will provide an interactive and accessible online experience for those who cannot attend in person. Recordings that will be uploaded on the weekend after each Thursday class. The full-time course is designed for people who live in the UK.

No previous experience or knowledge is required: applications from people with any education and level of knowledge about the climate are welcome. You also do not need to belong to the University of Oxford to participate. The organizers are looking for commitment, motivation and genuine interest - and we are sure that you have it, considering that you did it here!

The number of places is limited for in person and the livestream due to the size of the auditorium and constraints on Microsoft Teams. Please note all applicants will have access to the recordings as OCS’s aim  to make climate education as accessible as possible, there are only limited spaces for in-person (110) and the livestream (300). If you do not receive a space for the online or in person course you will still be able to watch the recordings which will be uploaded every weekend.

For online participants, a payment of 5 pounds will be requested to cover the costs of video calls.
