Activity Description

Short term project: Join the community, where experiment with reducing own waste, waste management on a small town level, production of food in permaculture gardens, natural building, permaculture, ecological gardening, innovative educational methods and the old crafts. Assist to preserve cultural heritage, the authentic crafts, traditions and nature. Help spread the word about low waste management, permaculture and Erasmus+. Get involved in the organization of Shipka Fest. Come and meet like-minded people and be the change in the world.


The project is in the Rose Valley at 2 locations: Shipka (50 days), Srednogorovo (10 days). Life round here - has many advantages – the air is fresh, water and food are clean, we are in the outskirts of the mountain and near a lake. Shipka is a historical place with rich cultural heritage. Lots of tourists visit Shipka, to see the Russian church with the golden domes, the Ethographic museum and to learn about permaculture.


Accommodation, Food and Transport Arrangements

There are 2 locations:1) OPEN MIND demonstration center 2) Srednogorovo ecological house project. At site 1 sleeping will be either indoors or tents. Site 2 - tents. Travel, food, accommodation and pocket money (set amount) expenses are covered. There is a bus to the town of Kazanlak (43,000 people) every 1 hour from Shipka and from Srednogorovo to Kazanlak every 2 hours.


Training During the Activity

Hands on experience - natural building and clay plaster. hot compost, compost tea; Design and making of productive permaculture gardens (building raised beds, perennial plants, observation skills, worm farm, mulching , composting, making seed and seedling mixtures and raising seedlings) - Composting on a small town level Assistance to the Shipka Community center in building and space maintenance and organization of Shipka Fest.


Participant Profile

People who want to join short term project and gain practical experience in natural building, ecological gardening, permaculture, biodiversity, community building, transformation, transition economy, low waste management for small communities. People who are willing to learn and like to spend time outdoors. We would like to host volunteers who demonstrate a strong interest for the main themes of the project and main areas of activities.
