XXI International School on Global Security for young professionals from Europe and CIS countries


On June 18–26, 2022, PIR Center will host the XXI International School on Global Security for young professionals from Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The event will be held in Zvenigorod, Moscow region. This year, the agenda of the School will encompass challenges and threats to, as well as opportunities for enhancing Eurasian security in current geopolitical and technological conditions.


PIR Center International School on Global Security is an international educational platform that provides young professionals with an opportunity to enhance their understanding of modern global security challenges and threats, advance their knowledge on key developments of Eurasian security, develop the skills of situational analysis and joint project activities while enabling communication between international relations specialists from European and CIS countries. Participation in the School is an effective tool for professional career growth and a vital instrument of shaping an agenda for Eurasian cooperation.


Key formats of PIR Center International School on Global Security in 2022 include lectures, seminars, trainings, business cases, debates, meetings with officials and publicists, panel sessions, situational analysis, strategic sessions (group work with mentors), and cultural excursions.


Main thematic areas of XXI PIR Center International School on Global Security:


● WMD nonproliferation regime.


● Development of international cooperation on peaceful uses of nuclear energy.


● Arms control in the age of new geopolitical and technological development and arms race prevention.


● Cybersecurity and cyberspace as a space for war and cooperation.


● Information threat and hybrid warfare.


● New technologies and digital transformation phenomenon.


● Trends in contemporary armed conflicts and the practice of cultural and humanitarian cooperation.


● Transnational threats to security in Eurasia.


● New European security agenda as a path to security in Eurasia.


● Russia's foreign policy priorities.


The working language of the School is Russian. Since some sessions may be held in English, participants should demonstrate advanced knowledge of Russian and English.


Participants. 25 young international relations and global security experts of different occupations are invited to participate in the School, including diplomats, military officers, scholars, analysts, students, journalists, public figures, representatives of international organizations. The School is open to participants from Europe and the CIS with a strong interest in global security developments and international cooperation in Eurasia.


Venue. The School will take place in the ancient Russian city of Zvenigorod. The hotel is located near some of the unique landmarks of Russian culture and military glory. The cultural program of the School includes cultural excursions.


XXI PIR Center International School on Global Security is organized with support from Presidential Grant Foundation, Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, and Russkiy Mir Foundation.


The organizers bear the costs of accommodation and meals of the participants of the School. They are further responsible for providing the participants with the necessary handouts, literature, and sources to prepare for the School. Travel expenses (to Moscow and back) of non-resident participants are covered by the sending party. Based on individual applications, however, PIR Center may reimburse air travel expenses for participants from distant regions of Russia (Siberia, the Far East) as well as the CIS countries.


Each participant is provided with the following: the School’s main (educational) program, handouts, reading materials to prepare for the School; opportunity to take part in receptions and excursions; accommodation in comfortable double rooms and three meals per day (buffet); transfers from Moscow to Zvenigorod and back, and visa support (when necessary).




APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN

XXI PIR CENTER INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL ON GLOBAL SECURITY


To take part in the contest for participants of the XXI International School on Global Security, applicants need to:


1. FILL OUT the electronic form via the attached link.


2. SEND an e-mail letter to edu@pircenter.org providing the organizers with the following:


● CV / Resume.


● Letter of intent (in Russian), specifying the goals of participation in the program.


● Recommendation / reference letter to the School from the head of the sending organization or its division / supervisor in Russian or English.


Additionally, applicants may attach any other supporting documents to strengthen their profile (such as a list of publications).


The email should be titled International School 2022 Application (indicated in the subject line).


3. RECEIVE e-mail confirmation from the School’s organizing committee that their application is accepted for consideration.


The organizers may ask for an interview with the candidate (to be held in online format).
